Reverend Jesse Jackson Passes Away at 84

Civil rights leader Reverend Jesse Jackson has died at the age of 84, as announced by his family on Tuesday. They described him as a “servant leader,” emphasizing his dedication not just to his family, but to those who are oppressed and often ignored worldwide. The family shared, “We shared him with the world, and in return, the world became part of our extended family.” They also highlighted his strong belief in justice, equality, and love, which inspired millions. In their message, they encouraged everyone to honor his memory by continuing to advocate for the values he championed.

According to the family’s statement, Jackson passed away surrounded by loved ones, although no cause of death has been disclosed at this time.

Jackson was a pivotal figure in the American civil rights movement, known for promoting grassroots activism and economic empowerment. He urged communities to utilize voting, boycotts, and collective actions as means to instigate change. His work ensured that discussions on social justice remained relevant long after the civil rights movement peaked in the 1960s.

Reverend Al Sharpton, another leading voice in the civil rights arena, offered a tribute to Jackson, declaring, “Our country has lost one of its greatest moral voices.” He elaborated, noting that Jackson was a man who “carried history in his footsteps and hope in his voice.”

In his later years, Jackson faced health challenges and publicly revealed a Parkinson’s disease diagnosis in 2017. He had been hospitalized in November, and he had also suffered from progressive supranuclear palsy for over a decade before his passing.

Sharpton added that Jackson fought against injustices both internationally and domestically, asserting that his voice resonated in various settings and that his unwavering faith made a significant impact.

Jackson’s commitment to civil rights has left a lasting mark on the United States’ political and social landscape, reaffirming his remarkable legacy.
