Bunnie Xo and Jelly Roll Share Their tumultuous Relationship Journey
Bunnie Xo and Jelly Roll’s relationship has had its ups and downs—often more sour than sweet. In her recent memoir, “Stripped: Unfiltered and Unapologetic,” Bunnie, whose real name is Alyssa Deford, reflects on her wild upbringing and the emotional rollercoaster that marked her early days with the singer-songwriter. Long before they were seen as one of Country music’s most devoted pairs, they navigated some harsh realities—like the night Bunnie discovered that Jelly Roll’s ex was just a short walk away.
Bunnie recalled feeling utterly devastated upon learning about the situation. “I was hurt because I didn’t think he was the type to do that,” she expressed to FOX News Digital. “In that moment, my heart broke. Yet I couldn’t help but wonder, ‘Why do I keep attracting men like this?’”
She noticed early on that traditional married life wasn’t something she envisioned for herself. The two tied the knot in 2016 in a fiery ceremony in Las Vegas, after which Bunnie became a stepmother to Jelly Roll’s children, Bailey and Noah.
“I think it’s important to point out that we weren’t your traditional bride and groom,” she elaborated. “I was a working girl, and he was a former drug dealer turned struggling artist. The rules of the street don’t align with what you might see as a conventional marriage.” While she acknowledges that cheating is universally wrong, she hinted at the complexities of their particular circumstances.
In her book, Bunnie mentioned that she and the Grammy Award-winning artist, Jason Bradley Deford by birth, decided to take a three-month break. Confusingly, though, Jelly Roll announced their breakup publicly on Instagram, which left her stunned. “Are you serious?” she recalled. “People started reaching out to me, saying he was with his ex. Suddenly, it all made sense, and it became easier to cut ties.”
After releasing the 2018 album *Waylon & Willie II*, Bunnie expressed her disdain for most of its content. “If you listen closely, you can hear a man pouring his guilt into those lyrics. I can hardly get through that album,” she admitted.
Reflecting on her first “fairy tale” that twisted into a nightmare, Bunnie noted numerous factors contributed to the breakdown. “What was happening in our marriage didn’t seem to matter,” she revealed. “Both of us carried heavy baggage into this relationship. I had emerged from an abusive background; my father was a cheater, which made trusting even harder.”
With both partners wanting a change, they sought couples therapy but instead ended up in a screaming match. “Walking in felt like stepping on a grenade,” Bunnie described. “We left thinking our relationship was over.” But they weren’t done yet. What began as heartache evolved into a renewed commitment.
Eventually, they rekindled their relationship with newfound dedication. “We decided we wanted to grow together,” she explained. “I don’t want to be this person anymore. I choose you.” This mutual promise to improve both themselves and each other led them to a healthier bond.
“Marriage isn’t one-size-fits-all,” Bunnie said. “Each relationship is unique. Even on bad days, you must wake up and choose your partner.” In 2023, they renewed their vows at the same chapel in Las Vegas where they first married, highlighting their ongoing commitment to one another. Bunnie summed it up well: “I’ve seen many versions of my husband over the years, and I’ve changed, too. But we embrace each other—the good and the ugly—and approach life together, tackling challenges head-on.”
