FBI Takes the Lead in Alex Preti Shooting Investigation
The head of Minnesota’s law enforcement agency overseeing the investigation into Alex Preti’s shooting death has expressed concern over the FBI’s “lack of cooperation,” describing it as “alarming and unprecedented.” Drew Evans, the director of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), addressed the issue recently, revealing that the FBI has formally denied the agency access to any information or evidence regarding the January 24 incident.
Evans mentioned, “The BCA has repeatedly sought information and access to evidence concerning related shootings that occurred on January 7 and January 14. It’s still uncertain if there will be any cooperation or information sharing regarding these cases.” He emphasized that despite the challenges posed by this lack of access, the BCA remains dedicated to conducting thorough, independent investigations into these incidents.
He also noted, “We have informed both the FBI and the Department of Justice of our willingness to share any information we acquire and are open to joint investigations, should the FBI’s stance change. We will pursue all legal avenues to access the necessary information.” As of now, the FBI hasn’t responded to requests for comments.
In related news, a U.S. Border Patrol agent was involved in the shooting of Preti, an intensive care nurse at a veterans hospital, who was recording the actions of federal agents in Minneapolis at the time.
Evans pointed out that initial reports claimed Preti approached an immigration officer with a firearm and resisted attempts to disarm him. However, various eyewitness accounts and videos raise questions about the government’s narrative. During the enforcement operations in the area, civilians were seen trying to capture the situation on camera, with some shouting for authorities to back off.
In another twist, Renee Good was shot dead by ICE agents earlier in January during a raid, with authorities claiming she attempted to run over a federal officer with her vehicle.
Observers have noted that these events have sparked public unrest and a lot of questions regarding the actions of law enforcement in such situations.
