Teenagers Cause Chaos at Bronx Mall on President’s Day
On Monday, a large group of teenagers created a disturbance at a shopping mall in the Bronx, seizing the opportunity of a school holiday for President’s Day. The incident, referred to as a “takeover,” was reported around 2 p.m. at the Bay Plaza mall.
Police were called to the scene following reports of roughly 200 unruly teens. Witnesses described the situation as alarming. “This is insane. I mean, I’ve never seen anything this bad before,” commented a local resident named Keshana.
The mayhem extended to several stores, with one employee from a nearby McDonald’s noting the disorder. “A bunch of kids were coming in here and destroying everything,” William Norman said, expressing concern for the safety of everyone present.
According to reports, some teens confronted the police, resisting arrest and engaging with the officers. Footage from the scene captured an officer trying to detain an individual who was attempting to escape amidst the chaos.
When asked about their actions, the teenagers nonchalantly replied, “We were bored!” This lack of remorse drew criticism from online commentators, who expressed disbelief at the excuse for such reckless behavior.
Authorities indicated that multiple warnings were given to disperse the unruly crowd, which was reportedly coordinated through social media. While the mall did not close during this chaotic episode, it was resolved quickly enough to prevent further escalation.
In total, around 18 individuals were taken into custody, although specific charges have yet to be disclosed. As the event was covered online, many viewers responded strongly, with some suggesting that the teens could have used their free time more constructively.
