Sen. Cory Booker Open to 2028 Presidential Run
Senator Cory Booker (D-N.J.) has indicated that he hasn’t dismissed the possibility of running for president in 2028.
While up for re-election this year, he appeared on Jamie Harrison’s podcast and reflected on the idea of another presidential bid, noting that 2028 is approaching quickly.
“We know the people of Jersey want a president who is from New Jersey,” Harrison remarked.
Booker humorously suggested, “I think they want Bruce Springsteen to play at the inauguration.” He also clarified, “I’m not…I’m not even embarrassed about these thoughts. Right now, I’m focused on re-election, but I’m not ruling out a run for president in ’28.”
Previously, Booker campaigned for the presidency in 2020 but suspended his efforts just before the Iowa caucuses in January of that year.
His stance on Trump often garnered national attention, especially when he set the record for the longest speech on the Senate floor in 2025, speaking for 25 hours to critique the Trump administration and the Republican Party.
During that speech, he expressed concerns about the impact of the president, saying, “In just 71 days, the president of the United States has done tremendous damage to the safety of the American people and to the core foundations of our democracy.”
Booker’s recent comments come on the heels of Arizona Senator Mark Kelly announcing he is also seriously weighing a presidential run in 2028. Kelly noted that while discussions about future elections are common, his immediate focus is on the upcoming 2026 election.
