Amber Glenn Struggles at Winter Olympics

American figure skater Amber Glenn, part of the group called the “Blade Angels,” faced a challenging performance in the women’s single short program during the Winter Olympics.

A three-time U.S. champion, Glenn had hopes of earning a medal until the very end of her routine. She executed a remarkable triple axel, followed by a triple flip-triple toe loop. But, possibly due to nerves, she stumbled out of the triple loop.

Because the double loop wasn’t recognized, she didn’t score any points for that element, leading to a significant loss of seven or eight points, which ultimately dashed her hopes of standing on the medal podium after the free skate.

After stepping off the ice, Glenn expressed her feelings to her coach, saying, “We already won.”

She finished with a score of 67.39 points, placing 13th overall. Despite the disappointment, she tried to maintain a positive outlook in her social media updates. One post read, “The world has ended for me many times, but tomorrow still comes,” paired with a photo of her cheerful dog. “Go on.”

Glenn also had a rough experience in the team competitions earlier in the Olympics, securing third behind Japan’s Kaori Sakamoto and Georgia’s Anastasia Gubanova. On a brighter note, Ilya Marin excelled in the men’s singles, contributing a gold medal for the USA.

Looking ahead, Alisa Liu seems to be the best hope for the United States to snag a medal in the women’s singles, as she ended the day in third place behind two Japanese competitors, Sakamoto and Ami Nakai.
