49ers Prepare for International Journey
It seems like the San Francisco 49ers might need a larger suitcase. The excitement is building as news spreads that they, along with the Rams, will be part of the NFL’s inaugural game in Australia—though no date has been officially set yet, most anticipate it will happen during Week 1. However, that’s not the only international trip on the horizon for the team this season.
Reports indicate that the 49ers will also host a game at Estadio Banorte in Mexico City. The specific dates and opponents for these matchups haven’t been confirmed, but it’s clear that the NFL sees the 49ers as a strong international draw as the league continues to expand its global presence.
Star running back Christian McCaffrey, who has a significant fan base, was recognized as the NFL Offensive Player of the Year in 2023. After facing injuries the previous season, McCaffrey made an impressive comeback in 2025, earning the title of Comeback Player of the Year. He recorded an impressive 311 carries for 1,202 yards and 10 touchdowns, along with 102 receptions for 924 yards and seven touchdowns—leading all running backs in receiving touchdowns. His total of 2,126 yards from scrimmage ranked second in the league, just behind Falcons running back Bijan Robinson.
Besides their two international games, the 49ers are also slated for cross-country trips to face the Atlanta Falcons and New York Giants.
