Georgia Republican Accuses Democrats Following Fatal Crash
Rep. Buddy Carter, a Republican Senate candidate from Georgia, recently criticized Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff and his party, suggesting they bear some responsibility for an illegal immigrant-related incident that resulted in the death of a special education teacher in Savannah.
“This should never have happened,” Carter expressed during an appearance on “Fox & Friends” on Wednesday. He further claimed, “If it weren’t for Senate Democrats like Jon Ossoff, none of this would have occurred. They encourage non-cooperation with ICE.”
Chatham County police reported that the incident, involving two vehicles, took place early Monday morning. Tragically, both drivers ended up in the hospital, where Dr. Linda Davis was pronounced dead.
Carter’s comments were partly fueled by the fact that the other driver, identified as 38-year-old Oscar Vasquez Lopez, was arrested after sustaining non-life-threatening injuries. This incident brought to light broader immigration enforcement issues, with Carter referencing a 2024 murder case involving an undocumented immigrant.
“These Democrats have Georgian blood on their hands,” he asserted, linking the tragedy to perceived failures in immigration leadership.
Carter emphasized that this reflects a pattern of issues, recalling the death of Laken Riley, a nursing student killed by an undocumented immigrant near the University of Georgia. “First it was Laken Riley. Now it’s Linda Davis, a beloved teacher from our community,” he added, calling for changes in immigration policy.
He argued that Ossoff and the Democrats focus more on undocumented immigrants than on the safety of Georgians, stating, “This has to stop.” Carter is campaigning to unseat Ossoff, citing this incident as part of his motivation.
As of now, Ossoff’s office has not responded to requests for comments regarding Carter’s claims.
