Matthew Stafford will not have a statue at SoFi Stadium, says former Ram.

There’s been some chatter about whether former Los Angeles Rams players should be honored with statues outside of SoFi Stadium. But does current quarterback Matthew Stafford belong in that conversation?

Former Rams running back Todd Gurley thinks a statue for Stafford isn’t likely to happen anytime soon.

During a conversation with TMZ Sports at a Super Bowl week event, Gurley made it clear he wasn’t trying to belittle Stafford’s achievements. He instead raised a question regarding the shared stadium situation with the Chargers. He noted, “We’re sharing a stadium with the Chargers,” and mentioned the complications that having a statue could create. Gurley suggested the organization might prefer not to tread that path.

His recommendation? Keep the honors simpler and more local. Perhaps a statue could find a home at the Rams’ training facility, referred to as Lamb’s Village in Woodland Hills, where the franchise truly represents Rams football.

“Maybe that’s where one could go,” Gurley asserted, hinting at the idea that a statue should be established in a place that feels exclusively Rams.

It’s an interesting point of view. After all, Stafford had an impressive season with 4,707 passing yards and 46 touchdowns, leading the league and winning the NFL MVP trophy. But winning another Lombardi Trophy could potentially change the debate from casual fan discussions to more serious considerations about statues.

It’s important to remember that even though the Chargers are technically the other tenants, SoFi Stadium was built under the direction of Rams owner Stan Kroenke. If he’s on board with the statue idea, then Stafford’s legacy could stand alongside legendary figures like Kurt Warner and Marshall Faulk.

Who do you think might also be deserving of a statue? Do you agree with Gurley’s thoughts? We’d love to hear your opinions.
