Venezuelan immigrant reportedly assaulted a Florida beachgoer by choking her and attempting to drown her in an unprovoked attack.

Assault on Florida Beach Leads to Arrest

A man, without legal immigration status, has been taken into custody after allegedly attacking a woman on a beach in Florida. Reports indicate he grabbed her by the throat and attempted to drag her into the ocean in a brutal assault.

The suspect, 26-year-old Venezuelan national Said Alexander Hernandez Gonzalez, carried out this “alarming” attack late one night at Tiger Shores Beach in Stuart, as shared by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff John Budensiek described the incident during a news briefing, expressing that it was deeply troubling. He noted that Gonzalez had overstayed his work visa, a detail that adds to the complexity of the case.

“Random acts of violence are particularly challenging for law enforcement, and this case exemplifies that,” the sheriff commented.

Authorities reported that the victim was walking alone, engaged in a phone conversation when Gonzalez approached her from behind around 11 p.m. Without any warning, he struck her, pulling her hair and forcing her head underwater.

In her panic, the woman recounted trying to synchronize her breathing with the ocean waves during the struggle, but ultimately lost consciousness.

After the assault, Gonzalez allegedly discarded her phone into the sea and went to his car to consume marijuana and vodka before fleeing the area.

According to the sheriff, the victim later recalled waking up with part of her body in the water and part on shore, and she had to walk over a mile to reach help at Stuart Beach, where officers discovered her with visible marks on her neck.

Gonzalez was apprehended on Sunday when he reportedly told someone he had killed a woman and threatened to take his own life. Upon questioning, he admitted to the assault while expressing no remorse.

Facing charges of attempted murder, Gonzalez is also experiencing scrutiny from federal immigration authorities and is currently detained in the Martin County Jail.
