American speed skater Brittany Bowe may not be heading home from the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics with a medal, but she certainly has something special—a new engagement ring. Hilary Knight, the captain of the USA Women’s Hockey Team, proposed to Bowe at the Olympic event. The two met during the 2022 Beijing Olympics and Knight chose the moment just before the gold medal game against Canada to pop the question.
Knight shared their engagement on social media, posting a video of them in matching Team USA outfits with the caption, “The Olympics brought us together. This Olympics made us forever.”
Bowe comes into these games with two bronze medals in her collection, and Knight, a four-time Olympic medalist, is poised to add either a gold or silver medal following Thursday’s rematch against Canada.
Reflecting on their connection during the 2022 Olympics, Knight mentioned the challenges of COVID-19 protocols, yet found beauty in the human connection, explaining, “It was really cool to have that human connection even though we were walking far away outside,” she told Olympic.com recently.
Bowe elaborated on getting to know Knight, revealing layers she didn’t expect. “Knowing her as a hockey player, she’s like a big, strong, powerful woman,” Bowe noted. “But once I got to know her, she was soft-spoken, sincere, kind, almost shy, and that really piqued my interest.”
This year’s Olympics have seen their fair share of love stories, particularly with Valentine’s Day being celebrated. Just last week, American skier Breezy Johnson’s boyfriend proposed right after she finished a super-G race in Cortina d’Ampezzo, marking a memorable moment in both her personal and professional journey.
