New footage shows host cautioning that Americans are being 'replaced' by migrants

Resurfaced CBS Episode Sparks Immigration Debate

The Media Research Center recently highlighted a past episode of CBS’s “48 Hours,” featuring Dan Rather discussing the potential risks associated with mass immigration. This comes as the nation grapples with a significant conversation about the effects of both legal and illegal immigration.

As the organization’s research analyst, Bill D’Agostino, delved into the footage, he noted that CBS has faced scrutiny for allegedly underreporting the number of violent criminals among the millions of undocumented immigrants in the U.S.

D’Agostino shared detailed insights on the episode, which he summarized as “Close the Door,” emphasizing the widespread concerns surrounding immigration. In a clip, Rather recounted various issues: “Tonight’s 48 Hours features anger over immigrants, Americans being fired and replaced by foreigners, schools and hospitals stretched to their limits, and criminal aliens on the streets. Should America close its doors?”

Interestingly, this resurfaced footage brings into focus Rather’s views from 1995, where he warned that a “melting pot may be coming to a boil.” He reported that an estimated 6,000 immigrants were expected to arrive in a short period, stressing the challenges posed by this influx.

Many are now questioning the contrast between Rather’s earlier views and those he later expressed as a prominent journalist often perceived as leaning left. Following the airing of the episode, D’Agostino remarked how it seemed shocking that immigration was once covered from a more American standpoint in journalism.

Ultimately, the ongoing evaluation of immigration, both legal and illegal, continues to stir varied opinions across the spectrum, revealing a complex landscape of challenges and concerns that many Americans are grappling with today.
