$100,000 reward posted after graffiti found in the new Bills stadium

Graffiti Halts Bills’ Stadium Construction

Gilbane Building and Turner Construction have announced a $100,000 reward for any information that leads to an arrest following the discovery of graffiti, which temporarily suspended work on the Bills’ new stadium.

Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz reported that the graffiti contained pornographic and homophobic messages. County Public Works Commissioner William Geary added that four suites experienced around $150,000 in damage due to oil-based spray paint affecting various surfaces, which necessitated considerable repairs.

In a joint statement, Gilbane and Turner confirmed that construction will resume on Friday, maintaining that the stadium is still on track for completion as planned.

According to the statement, “We have suspended work because those who come to this site deserve to work in an environment that reflects respect and professionalism. If that standard is violated, we take the necessary time to reset expectations.” This resonates with their commitment to maintaining a respectful work atmosphere.

They also expressed gratitude for the support received from local officials, law enforcement, and on-site workers in pursuing those responsible for the vandalism. “Gilbane | Turner does not tolerate graffiti or any behavior that disrupts our preferred working environment,” the statement emphasized, recognizing the dedication of the majority who want to maintain a welcoming atmosphere on the project.

Reports indicated that the graffiti was found in secure areas of both finished and unfinished portions of the stadium. Set to cost approximately $2.1 billion, the venue aims to debut at the start of the 2026 season.

Poloncarz suggested that the act was likely carried out by someone with construction site access.

The Bills had closed the previous Highmark Stadium in early January, following a last game against the Jets. Meanwhile, the new location is nearing completion, situated just across the street from the site known for hosting multiple Super Bowl championships and featuring star quarterback Josh Allen.

As of now, it’s about 87% complete and is anticipated to open in July.
