Floyd Mayweather Jr. Returns to Boxing
Floyd Mayweather Jr. is making a comeback. The famed boxer revealed on Friday that he is stepping back into the ring after an exhibition match against Mike Tyson scheduled for April 25 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
“I believe I can still set new records in boxing,” Mayweather stated. He confidently proclaimed, “From the Mike Tyson event onwards, no one else will draw bigger crowds, attract a larger global audience, or generate more revenue than I will with my events.”
His promotion will be handled by CSI Sports/Fight Sports.
CSI Sports/Fight Sports co-founders Richard and Craig Miele commented, “Bringing Floyd Mayweather back to capture a global audience with his fight against Mike Tyson highlights our dedication to showcasing the most prominent athletes in boxing. Floyd will undoubtedly dominate the sport again, attracting the largest audiences and highest box office returns we’ve seen.”
As Mayweather approaches his 49th birthday on February 24, it’s interesting to note he retired from professional boxing after defeating UFC star Conor McGregor by TKO in 2017. That victory enhanced his flawless career record.
Since that retirement, Mayweather, known as a five-division champion, has participated in several exhibition matches, most notably a decision win over Logan Paul in June 2021.
His last exhibition was against John Gotti III in August 2024, where he lost by decision. Mayweather has also teased the idea of a rematch with Manny Pacquiao, although talks appear to have stalled.
In July, Pacquiao returned from retirement for a fight against WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios, which ended in an unexpected draw.
Interestingly, Mayweather has hinted at returning to boxing before; he even suggested on social media late in 2019 that he would come out of retirement in 2020.
