Trump Critiques Ocasio-Cortez’s Diplomacy at Munich Security Conference
President Donald Trump intensified his attacks on progressive Democrats during a public address on Thursday, specifically targeting New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for her disappointing performance at the Munich Security Conference.
“Her performance was terrible,” Trump remarked to reporters aboard Air Force One while heading to an event in Rome, Georgia. “Honestly, I was surprised. I didn’t realize she was, well, uninformed.”
Ocasio-Cortez’s participation at the conference drew criticism, particularly for her uncomfortable responses to questions, including a pivotal one about the U.S. commitment to defending Taiwan against potential Chinese aggression.
In her reply, Ocasio-Cortez hesitated, using fillers like “hmm” before finally stating, “This is a long-standing U.S. policy, and what we need is to prevent such conflicts from arising.” It appeared she was struggling to convey her thoughts clearly.
Vice President J.D. Vance labeled her response “embarrassing,” while social media users echoed similar sentiments, outright critiquing her candidacy.
With eyes set on the 2028 presidential election, Ocasio-Cortez’s critics may have sharpened their focus, especially given Trump’s fierce denunciation of leftist Democrats.
While attending the conference, she sought to clarify her intentions, asserting, “I’m not here because I’m running for president or have made any decisions about it. My purpose is to highlight the urgent need to combat the rising inequality that fuels far-right populism.”
Earlier in the day, Trump criticized Ocasio-Cortez’s diplomatic abilities, stating that she was a poor representative on the global stage. He commented on her inability to handle simple questions effectively, suggesting she could have simply stated, “I’m researching it and will get back to you.” Instead, her fumbling came off as unprepared.
The White House also weighed in, expressing that Trump is simply being candid about his views. A spokesperson declared that Ocasio-Cortez should prioritize representing Americans properly rather than embarrassing the country internationally.
Press Secretary Anna Kelly remarked on Ocasio-Cortez’s trip to Munich, indicating it’s absurd for her to be there when constituents back home are suffering due to resource cuts linked to the Democratic government shutdown.
During a related event in Georgia, Trump took aim at Democrats’ recent affordability focus, highlighting how some left-wing candidates, like New York City Mayor Zoran Mamdani, campaigned on reducing living costs, which included raising taxes on affluent individuals.
He further criticized the phrase “affordability,” arguing that inflation issues stem from Democratic policies under President Biden.
Again addressing the affordability narrative, Trump boasted about the economic growth achieved during his administration, asserting that retirement accounts and 401(k)s are at all-time highs while questioning the media’s fixation on affordability.
In the aftermath, Fox News Digital reached out to Ocasio-Cortez’s office for further comments regarding Trump’s statements.
