Cowboys reach a three-year, $24M agreement with Javonte Williams

Cowboys Secure Key Player with New Contract

The Dallas Cowboys have successfully secured one of their key players for the foreseeable future.

They announced that running back Javonte Williams has signed a three-year deal. Reports indicate that this contract is valued at approximately $24 million, with $16 million guaranteed.

This agreement comes on the heels of a breakout season for the 25-year-old, who rushed for 1,201 yards on 252 attempts. His 11 rushing touchdowns ranked eighth in the NFL last year, which is quite impressive, to say the least.

Additionally, he was efficient in the passing game, catching 35 balls for 137 yards and adding two receiving touchdowns. This certainly made him a reliable option for quarterback Dak Prescott, especially in short-yardage situations.

Williams had previously signed a one-year contract with Dallas after spending four seasons with the Broncos, so it makes sense that the Cowboys were proactive in securing his services before he hit free agency.

With Williams officially on board, the Cowboys can now turn their attention to other free agents, particularly wide receiver George Pickens.

Pickens, who joined the Cowboys in a trade last season, had a standout year that included his first Pro Bowl selection. He wrapped up the season with 93 catches, 1,429 receiving yards, and nine touchdowns across 17 games.

As for Pickens, he’s likely to receive a significant contract this offseason. However, given that CeeDee Lamb is already signed to a hefty four-year, $136 million deal, it’s uncertain whether Dallas will want to commit to another big contract for Pickens.

Brad Shum, a well-known voice around the Cowboys, expressed that retaining Pickens should be a priority for the team this offseason. He mentioned that the team’s offense heavily relies on both Pickens and Lamb working together.

It raises an interesting question: Can the Cowboys look ahead and avoid any contractual conflicts?
