Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes among athletes celebrating USA hockey icons

Everyone enjoys celebrating a victory.

The U.S. men’s hockey team clinched its first gold medal since the iconic 1980 Miracle on Ice, and they charmed many notable American athletes in the process.

On a Sunday morning that likely resonated beyond just local fans, NFL great Tom Brady and Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes were quick to congratulate the team after their thrilling 2-1 overtime win against Canada.

Brady shared a photo on social media, noting, “He’s a legend,” in reference to Jack Hughes, who scored the overtime goal, and his brother Quinn.

Mahomes showed his support by displaying three American flags, rallying his team after their hard-fought victory.

D’Angelo Booker’s enthusiasm was palpable too, as he, already on West Coast time and preparing for a game against the Portland Trail Blazers later that evening, exclaimed, “It’s totally worth getting up at 5 a.m.!!”

2026 Winter Olympics

Meanwhile, injured Pacers player Tyrese Haliburton took a moment to applaud goalie Connor Hellebuyck, who performed impressively with 41 saves during the game.

Haliburton tweeted, “41 saves!? Oh my god!!! Congratulations to Connor Hellebuyck and @usahockey for taking home the gold medal! 🥇🇺🇸.”

Earlier in the Olympics, the U.S. women’s ice hockey team also defeated Canada by a score of 2-1 to earn their own gold medal.

This marks a historic achievement as it’s the first time both the men’s and women’s teams from the U.S. won gold at the same Olympic Games. Each team notched their third gold medal overall.

As for Canada, they hold the record for the most golds in men’s ice hockey history with nine, but they head into the 2030 Olympics on a gold drought, having not won since 2014, despite securing three of the last four Olympics.
