Bindi and Robert Irwin Remember Their Father Steve on His Birthday
Bindi Irwin and her brother Robert have honored their father, Steve Irwin, on what would have been his 64th birthday. It’s hard to believe it’s been nearly 20 years since he passed away.
On Saturday, the siblings took to social media to express their love and remembrance. Bindi shared a heartfelt message: “Happy birthday Dad. I miss you so much,” along with a series of nostalgic photos. She added, “Grace is proud to tell everyone that Grandpa Crocodile is her guardian angel. We love you. Forever.”
Robert, too, shared his feelings on Instagram, saying, “Today would have been your birthday. I love you, I miss you… Thank you for being a guiding light and inspiration every day.” The responses from fans were overwhelming, with many expressing how much they admired their father through his children. One commenter noted, “So much of what we loved about your dad lives on in you. There’s no doubt he’s incredibly proud of what you’ve become! You’re a great role model!”
Steve, famously known as the “Crocodile Hunter,” died in 2006 after being stung by a stingray while filming a documentary on the Great Barrier Reef. At the time, Robert was just two years old and Bindi was eight. Terri, their mother, was married to Steve for 14 years before his untimely death.
In a recent interview, Robert, who won Season 34 of “Dancing with the Stars,” expressed how the competition allowed him to showcase the legacy of his father. “Coming from Australia, I didn’t know what to expect,” he said. “It’s impossible to put into words how much it means to me, because what I represent is more than just dancing.” He added that he feels a deep connection to his father’s work and strives to be a role model.
“When I walk into a ballroom, I represent the legacy my father left behind,” Robert shared. He emphasized the importance of spreading positivity and passion and the incredible support he has received from fans. It can be daunting to share one’s journey, but he notes it’s been a beautiful experience as he feels a sense of community with those who have followed this journey with him.
