IRGC Strengthens Control Over Hezbollah Amid Potential US Action

The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) in Iran is reportedly intensifying its grip on Hezbollah as the possibility of a US attack looms closer.

Recent developments suggest that both Hezbollah and Iran are gearing up for potential military action, with experts cautioning that Hezbollah may “activate” in response to a specific US strike against the Iranian regime.

Ross Harrison, a senior fellow at the Middle East Institute, mentioned to Fox News Digital that if Tehran feels threatened, Hezbollah’s actions against US and Israeli regional interests could significantly escalate. He added, “Hezbollah will not be activated immediately unless an attack directly targets the leadership of the Islamic Republic. However, they are likely to be considered in a phased response.”

Harrison elaborated that if Iran perceives an existential threat, it might take a conservative approach and fully utilize Hezbollah’s capabilities.

President Trump has previously set a 10- to 15-day deadline for Iran to comply with a deal, raising concerns over potential US actions should Iran fail to meet those expectations. Upcoming discussions in Geneva are slated to address Iran’s nuclear activities, particularly concerning uranium enrichment and sanctions relief.

Harrison emphasized that critical decisions regarding Iran are made by a small circle in the White House, with the president maintaining close oversight. He noted that normally, input would come from the National Security Council and the intelligence community, but the decision-making process is somewhat opaque.

In the context of escalating tensions, Harrison warned that if the US engages with partners such as Saudi Arabia or the Emirates, it risks igniting broader regional conflict, potentially drawing in Iran, Hezbollah, and countries in the Gulf.

Reports indicate improving ties between Iran and Hezbollah, with Revolutionary Guards officers said to be working on rebuilding the military infrastructure of Hezbollah and managing its strategic military plans. Harrison pointed out that Hezbollah’s leadership changes, particularly following Israel’s killing of key figures, have prompted a re-establishment of operational coordination.

He added that Iran perceives Hezbollah as a crucial deterrent against Israeli and American threats. However, despite their alliance, Hezbollah has its own agenda, raising questions about its loyalty fully aligning with Tehran.

Ultimately, as regional dynamics shift, the relationship between the IRGC and Hezbollah will be pivotal in any forthcoming military scenarios.
