Hilary Duff Remembers Robert Carradine
Hilary Duff has expressed her sorrow over the passing of her former Lizzie McGuire co-star, Robert Carradine, who died at 71.
“This hurts. It’s hard to face this reality about an old friend,” she shared on Instagram.
“There was so much warmth in the McGuire family, and I always felt cared for by the on-screen parents.”
“For that, I’ll be forever grateful. I’m truly saddened to hear of Bobby’s suffering. My heart aches for him, his family, and everyone who loved him.”
Carradine portrayed Duff’s father, Sam, in the beloved Disney Channel series, appearing in 65 episodes from 2001 to 2004. He also reprised the role in the 2003 film, The Lizzie McGuire Movie.
Jake Thomas, who played Duff’s brother in the show, recalled Carradine as “one of the coolest guys I’ve ever met.” He described him as “funny, down-to-earth, sometimes moody, and always a little quirky.”
“He was a talented actor, musician, and director, but most importantly, he was a family man,” Thomas noted.
Carradine had struggled with bipolar disorder and ultimately took his own life.
His family issued a statement, reflecting on their loss: “It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, uncle, and brother Robert Carradine.” They highlighted his role as “a beacon of light” and paid tribute to his brave fight against bipolar disorder, which lasted nearly two decades.
In a heartfelt eulogy, Carradine’s younger brother Keith acknowledged the toll bipolar disorder had taken on Robert. “This disease took the most out of him,” he said. “I want to honor his fight against it and celebrate his beautiful soul. He was a deep talent, and we will miss him every day.”
Robert Carradine was also known for his performances in notable films like The Big Red One, Revenge of the Nerds, and Escape from LA.
