Democrats exhibit 'Trump Derangement Syndrome' with counter-SOTU activities: Johnson

House Speaker Comments on Upcoming Events

House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican from Louisiana, addressed the media, noting that Democrats plan to host several events on Tuesday to counter the State of the Union address. He described their actions as a display of “Trump derangement syndrome.”

Johnson stated, “Tonight, the nation will hear about President Trump’s transformative first year in office. The results speak for themselves—inflation is down, wages are up, and GDP has exceeded expectations.” He remarked at the weekly press conference held by House Republican leaders.

In contrast, he mentioned, “Democrats are organizing five separate rallies.” He pointed out, “Instead of a speech tonight, it’s more like a call to arms.” Johnson emphasized that regardless of the small gatherings and their volume, Democrats have little to offer besides their agenda driven by opposition to Trump.

“Their focus seems to be solely on opposing President Trump and obstructing his policies, which only stymies progress,” he added. Johnson criticized the Democrats’ tactics as “this same tired strategy” that he feels has persisted for a decade.

He expressed his disapproval of boycotting political speeches, stating, “It’s disgraceful. We don’t do that. Republicans stay present regardless and our voters expect us to be here.”

One of the Democrat-led events is set to take place near the Lincoln Memorial, aimed at addressing criticism of Trump’s first year in office. This same event is backed by left-leaning groups such as Meidas Touch and Move On Civic Action.

A number of Democratic senators, including Ed Markey and Jeff Merkley, are expected to attend the “State of the Swamp” event at the National Press Club, with other similar gatherings planned as well.
