Masked Thugs Attack Police Cruiser During Street Takeover in Maryland
In a startling incident, masked individuals were caught on video attacking a police cruiser while an officer was still inside. This occurred during a chaotic street takeover in Gaithersburg, Maryland, shortly after midnight on February 22.
Eyewitness reports and footage reveal that drivers converged at the intersection of East West Highway and Connecticut Avenue, blocking traffic and performing high-speed “donuts” as bystanders watched. Montgomery County police noted the situation escalated around 12:39 a.m. when a large group of vehicles was seen heading toward Silver Spring’s business district. Officers attempted to manage the situation by closing several intersections to protect the public.
Unfortunately, these efforts were in vain as many vehicles flooded the busy intersection, ultimately forcing it to shut down.
Dashcam footage depicted a person standing in the road, deliberately obstructing a police vehicle while another driver continued to perform “doughnuts.” Two police cruisers were significantly damaged during the chaos, with images illustrating broken windows and other destruction.
In a particularly alarming situation, an officer was inside their vehicle when the rear window and windshield were smashed. Nonetheless, thankfully, no officers sustained injuries.
Maryland State Police later joined in to help disperse the crowd and restore normal traffic flow. Prior to this, a traffic stop executed by Prince George’s County Police and Maryland State Police resulted in the recovery of three handguns connected to the event.
Authorities acknowledge that street takeovers pose serious dangers—both to participants and to innocent bystanders.
The investigation is being led by the Montgomery County Police Department’s Second Precinct Investigations Unit. They are appealing for public assistance in identifying suspects involved in this dangerous situation, even offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest.
