Who would have guessed that a grandmother diving into Minecraft could aid her grandson in his battle against cancer? Grandma Sue Jacot wasn’t even aware of this until she heard about it from others. Any earnings she gets from her gaming videos are directed towards her grandchildren’s medical bills.
Grandma’s gaming for a cause
The 81-year-old from Arizona, sharing her gaming as GrammaCrackers, began her Minecraft journey thanks to her grandchildren teaching her the ropes.
Her grandson Jack is currently in remission from sarcoma, a cancer affecting soft tissues. However, the family is still faced with hefty medical bills from his treatment.
“The first few months felt a bit daunting,” Sue recalls. Yet as time passed, she found herself immersed in the game. “It’s been really enjoyable, and I hope you’ll join me on this new adventure,” she added in her initial video.
Additional support through GoFundMe
In response to expenses, her grandson Austin has established a GoFundMe to assist with Jack’s medical costs.
“You’re stepping into a different little world,” she reflects. “I love graham crackers, so it’s Gramma Cracker.”
She’s received overwhelmingly positive feedback. “That’s when it hit me that maybe my daughter and her family could manage to cover some of Jack’s treatments,” she explained.
Jack’s tough journey with cancer
Jack shared that his treatment was a long, arduous process.
“He’s a remarkable young man,” Sue commented. “It was heart-wrenching.”
“By the time chemotherapy wraps up, it feels like you’ve taken a mortgage on a small house due to all the medical bills,” she noted.
Sue gains traction online
Recently, her videos have amassed over 500,000 views and attracted more than 360,000 subscribers. In a memorable stream, GrammaCrackers showcased Jack’s Minecraft creations during their time together.
Continuing to improve her gaming skills, Sue keeps notes filled with helpful tips. She finds pleasure in the challenge and invites other grandmas to join the Minecraft experience.
“We’re thrilled to offer him all the support we can,” Sue expressed.
As of January 17, Austin posted, “The most profound blessing has been Jack’s health improvement; he’s in remission. With ongoing doctor visits, he’s continuously fighting and getting stronger,” as shared on their GoFundMe page.
It’s truly impressive that an 81-year-old is not only gaming but doing so for such a noble purpose. Here’s hoping she continues to rally support for Jack.
