Bill Gates expresses regret to Foundation staff regarding Epstein connections, asserts he did 'nothing wrong'

Bill Gates Apologizes for Relationship with Epstein

Bill Gates recently expressed regret to staff at the Gates Foundation regarding his association with Jeffrey Epstein. He acknowledged that his actions have overshadowed the charity’s reputation, although he maintained that he wasn’t involved in Epstein’s criminal activities. In what seemed like an odd insistence, he said, “I didn’t do anything illegal. I didn’t see anything illegal,” which raises questions about his interpretation of legality.

During a town hall meeting, Gates admitted to having two extramarital relationships with Russian women, which came to light through Epstein, but he clarified that these cases did not involve any of Epstein’s victims. Gates was urged to take responsibility for his past connections with a convicted sex offender.

In recordings reviewed, Gates reiterated that he hadn’t witnessed anything illegal, explaining that he had taken photos at Epstein’s request, meant for his assistants. He emphasized that he never interacted with Epstein’s victims or any of the women with whom Epstein was connected.

The billionaire described his ties to Epstein as a serious misstep, particularly for bringing Gates Foundation executives to meetings with him. “I apologize to everyone else who was caught up in this situation because of the mistakes I made,” Gates acknowledged during the meeting.

Gates disclosed that he had been meeting with Epstein since 2011, years after Epstein had pleaded guilty to soliciting a minor for sex in 2008. While Gates acknowledged being aware of Epstein’s travel restrictions, he admitted to not thoroughly checking Epstein’s background. Despite concerns voiced by his then-wife, Melinda French Gates, in 2013, Gates continued those meetings.

Reflecting on his past choices, he stated that had he known then what he knows now, it would have made matters worse, given that Epstein’s past transgressions continued to be relevant. He credited his ex-wife for her skepticism regarding Epstein.

Gates shared more about his meetings with Epstein, indicating that they met until 2014. He stated that he accepted invitations to travel with Epstein and spent time in various locations such as Germany, France, and New York, but clarified he never stayed overnight or visited Epstein’s island.

Epstein reportedly discussed his ties with other wealthy individuals and hinted at ways they could help fund initiatives in global health. Gates admitted that the presence of other prominent figures at these gatherings made him feel that the interactions were acceptable, though he has since realized that they inadvertently enhanced Epstein’s standing.

The Microsoft co-founder acknowledged that his relationship with Epstein and recently uncovered emails from the Justice Department have cast a shadow over the Gates Foundation. “It is definitely antithetical to the values and goals of the foundation,” he remarked, emphasizing that the organization’s work is sensitive to its reputation and public perception.

In a smaller glimpse into his personal life at the meeting, Gates confirmed having relationships with a Russian bridge player and a Russian nuclear physicist, both of whom were linked to his business activities. It remains ambiguous whether either of these relationships occurred while the individuals were working for Gates.

Newly released Epstein documents also contain serious allegations against Gates, including claims that he intended to secretly drug his wife for a sexually transmitted disease before she was diagnosed.

One email, sounding like it was penned by Boris Nikolic, a top adviser to Gates, was sent only to Epstein. It suggested Gates was trying to “obtain drugs to deal with the effects of having sex with a Russian woman,” as reported.

Epstein also implied that Gates sought antibiotics to give to his then-wife, Melinda Gates, without her knowledge. The email appeared to reflect Nikolic’s frustrations and a potential fallout between him and Gates concerning certain disputes.
