College Athlete Murdered: Girlfriend Arrested

The girlfriend of a college track and field athlete has been arrested following the fatal stabbing of her boyfriend.

Kavon Goldson, a senior sprinter from Jamaica, was found dead on the campus of Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri. The 23-year-old was discovered with multiple stab wounds on Monday morning after police were alerted to his residence. He later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

The university expressed condolences, saying, “Our thoughts are with the family, friends, faculty, and staff, as well as all those affected by this tragic situation.” They emphasized the importance of mental health resources for students and staff in the wake of the incident.

Denita Jackson, Goldson’s 27-year-old girlfriend, is facing charges of second-degree murder and armed criminal action. Reports indicate that there had been previous domestic violence incidents in their relationship. Jackson also worked with the track and field team at Lincoln University.

During interrogations, Jackson allegedly explained that she suspected Goldson was having an affair with her roommate. She reportedly returned home to find them in bed, leading to a confrontation that escalated into violence.

According to court documents, she used a hair clip to access the locked room of her roommate after hearing voices. Once inside, a struggle ensued when she confronted Goldson, who allegedly began to strangle her. In an attempt to defend herself, Jackson grabbed a knife from under the bed and stabbed Goldson.

It was also noted that Jackson attempted to call the police during the conflict. Initially, Goldson was taken to a local emergency room before being airlifted to University Hospital, where he ultimately died during surgery.

Goldson had established himself as a promising athlete, initially competing in middle-distance events before transitioning to sprinting. The tragic circumstances surrounding his death have left the community in shock.
