Alberto Carvalho's extensive real estate holdings exposed as LAUSD corruption investigation continues

Alberto Carvalho, the Superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), has a considerable real estate portfolio with an estimated value exceeding $6.3 million, spanning properties in California and Florida, according to information from the California Post.

This news comes as Carvalho finds himself under scrutiny, with federal officials reportedly raiding his office and residences in Los Angeles and Miami. The investigation pertains to allegations of fraud and corruption, as mentioned by sources.

Carvalho and his wife, Maria, possess at least six properties in Broward County, Florida, alongside one in Los Angeles. Before becoming the LAUSD superintendent in 2022, he led the Miami-Dade County Public Schools for over ten years.

His home in San Pedro, featuring three bedrooms and three bathrooms, is valued at around $1.6 million, with the structure itself offering close to 2,000 square feet.

Among his properties, Carvalho’s most significant asset is a five-bedroom, four-bathroom residence located in Miami Shores, worth approximately $2.4 million and covering 3,576 square feet. Moreover, he owns two condominiums in Miami valued collectively at about $1.4 million.

LAUSD principals earn an annual salary of $440,000 and committed to four-year contracts last year. Additionally, there are three properties in Fort Lauderdale that together cost about $1.3 million.

It has now come to light that Carvalho’s extensive property holdings are now under federal investigation.

Federal agents have searched Carvalho’s home in San Pedro, his LAUSD office, and other sites in Miami as part of this inquiry. Details from an affidavit related to the search remain sealed.

The investigation is reportedly linked to a failed AI venture called AllHere, which Carvalho was involved in, particularly a chatbot program intended for LAUSD that was eventually shut down.

One of the properties being investigated in Miami previously belonged to Debra Kerr, a leader within AllHere.

The LAUSD has acknowledged awareness of law enforcement activity at both the district headquarters and Carvalho’s residence, affirming their cooperation with the ongoing inquiry but stating that they lack further information at this moment.
