Jennifer Garner has shared insights into her journey of co-parenting with her ex-husband, Ben Affleck. During a recent appearance on Bustle’s “One Nightstand” Podcast, the “Alias” actress reflected on the compromises they made while raising their three children following their split in 2015.
She mentioned, “In a situation where kids grow up in separate homes, I take on both roles as mom and dad, and he fulfills both roles too.” Garner acknowledged that having both parents involved is crucial, noting, “It’s just how it has to be. Without both perspectives, you miss out on important benefits.” In fact, she believes that while there are losses, there are also gains, saying, “It allowed me to focus less on the pressures of parenting.”
Affleck and Garner first crossed paths on the set of the 2001 film “Pearl Harbor,” but it wasn’t until 2004, after starring together in “Daredevil,” that their romantic relationship began. They tied the knot in 2005, but ultimately divorced a decade later. In a joint statement at the time, they expressed their intention to maintain a loving friendship and collaborate on parenting, requesting privacy for their children during what they called a difficult transition.
In an earlier interview, Garner expressed fondness for Affleck, saying he was “the love of my life.” She recalled fond memories and the depth of their connection. “I didn’t marry just a celebrity; I married him, and I would choose him again if given the chance,” she stated.
Following their divorce, Affleck rekindled his romance with Jennifer Lopez, whom he married in 2022. Unfortunately, that relationship didn’t last long, leading to their divorce finalized in January 2025. A source later commented on Affleck’s current state, indicating he enjoys quality time with Garner and their kids, highlighting their positive co-parenting relationship. “There’s no animosity between them. They’re still a family at heart,” the source noted.
It seems that Affleck is in a healthier place now, continuing to focus on his work and projects. He admitted in a past interview that he never wanted to become a divorced person. “Getting divorced was tough. It meant my life wasn’t what I thought it was meant to be,” he shared, recognizing their enduring connection due to their children. “I’m grateful she’s their mother,” he added, affirming the importance of respect and cooperation, regardless of their marital status.
