After declining an invitation to the White House, the U.S. women’s Olympic hockey team has reportedly agreed to attend a gold medal celebration hosted by Flava Flav, despite his history of legal issues involving domestic violence.
Recently, during a call to congratulate the men’s Olympic hockey team, President Trump humorously mentioned wanting to get the women’s team to the White House. This comment didn’t sit well with some critics, which led to a denial of their visit.
On Wednesday, the women’s team indicated that they would “make the most of” the rapper’s invitation and attend his party. Reportedly, the choice to celebrate with a rapper instead of visiting the White House raises eyebrows, especially given Flava Flav’s concerning track record.
For example, the rapper, whose real name is William Jonathan Drayton Jr., has faced serious accusations, including being charged with domestic violence after an incident in October 2021 in Henderson, Nevada.
He also pleaded guilty in 2014 for domestic violence and has faced legal troubles before, including a 2012 arrest for serious assault charges.
Flava Flav extended his invitation after some backlash against Trump’s remarks about the men’s team.
“If the U.S. women’s hockey team wants to have a real celebration and invites me…I’m going to host them in Las Vegas,” he stated online.
He suggested plans for a nice dinner and a show, mentioning he could arrange accommodations to ensure a memorable celebration.
Though he speaks of plans, a date and details for the event have yet to be set.
In a follow-up message, the rapper claimed to have heard from Hilary Knight of Team USA expressing interest in performing at his gathering.
However, no official confirmation has come from the U.S. women’s hockey team regarding Flava Flav’s participation in the planned party.
