Season 2 of Hulu’s Thriller Drama: A Review
It feels like the universe answered my request—more drama, please! Season 2 of Hulu’s series has kicked off with a bang. Now, I wouldn’t say the first season didn’t have its moments, like that steamy shower scene involving Xavier Collins and Dr. Torabi. But honestly, I felt a bit aloof during it all. What really caught my attention was how abruptly it ended, with Torabi leaning in and whispering something about a message from the president. Quite the cliffhanger, right?
Sitting down to watch paradise again, I found myself wishing for more intimate and engaging moments—ones that had real weight. Enter Annie and Link. They just might be what I was looking for.
The inaugural episode of Season 2, titled “Graceland,” might initially confuse some viewers. It seems a little disconnected from the main storyline at first, but it quickly becomes evident that these two characters are living in a post-apocalyptic world with very different agendas.
Annie, the lone inhabitant of Graceland, meets Link, who shows up with his crew. Tension builds as they flirt amidst the backdrop of Elvis’s Memphis mansion, and it’s almost as if the room is charged. As Link prepares for a final night with his group, the scene begins to shift.
The end of Annie’s tour at Graceland leads to an intimate moment where the two find themselves somewhat isolated, a little wink of fate pushing them closer together. Although awkward at first, their vulnerability soon gives way to a captivating encounter underscored by She & Him’s evocative cover of “Unchained Melody.”
In this scene, the two characters navigate their nerves and share a genuinely funny misunderstanding about Elvis. When Annie asks for Link’s favorite song, he replies with “Are You Lonesome Tonight,” and she, perhaps humorously, doesn’t quite grasp the reference. But once they start to kiss, things spiral into romance.
As they undress each other and cozy up in one of Graceland’s bedrooms, their laughter and tears blend into something more than just physical—it’s poignant. They embrace, knowing these moments could be fleeting, and they even share a joyful awkwardness that feels real.
The morning after, when Link attempts to take Annie along with his crew, she finds herself overwhelmed, locking herself in her room and crying. This emotional moment adds depth to their earlier encounters, making them even more significant. It’s as if she’s trapped in memory, holding on to the night they shared. A twist towards the end reveals that this magical evening has led to an unexpected pregnancy, prompting her to leave Graceland in search of Link.
Sensual with intent, this season is shaping up to be thrilling television.
The first three episodes of paradise Season 2 are available for streaming. New episodes come out on Mondays.
