Residents in NY and NJ dig in to protect their parking spots after the blizzard

Snow parking zones are becoming increasingly common as frustrated drivers go to great lengths to protect their parking spaces.

Some are resorting to homemade signs threatening vandalism, while others are merely warning potential spot thieves that they might never locate their car again. It’s a real battle for space on the roads.

In Staten Island, influencer Rob Pepp shared his parking struggles, predicting that someone would claim his spot while he was at work.

“I have to say, this is going to be a phenomenal place for those who come in and take a shot at it,” he noted on social media, posting a photo of his vehicle amid nearly 30 inches of snow.

“Whoever takes this place, I’ll pay to have them refilled,” he humorously captioned the picture.

This resonates with many dealing with similar neighborly disputes over parking.

One woman replied on Facebook, “Put your lawn furniture there!!!! I’ll go crazy if someone takes my place!” while another joked, “Put some cinder blocks down. I’m sure they won’t move!”

In Staten Island, there’s a fierce competition for parking, with many residents employing creative, albeit questionable, tactics. Unfortunately, this has led to escalating tensions, especially in parts of New Jersey.

In Elizabeth, a resident crafted a warning sign to deter others from parking nearby, saying, “Try another one. This will flatten your tire twice.” They creatively displayed it, attaching the notice to a stick.

However, this act didn’t sit well with everyone, particularly after a complaint was lodged by someone needing a spot for their disabled mother, prompting police involvement.

Officers removed the threats and issued their message: “Shoveling snow is gaining aerobic exercise, not property rights! Public roads are not private property.”
