Iran's Air Defenses 'Weakened' as U.S. Sent 'One-Way' Attack Drones: Report

US Military Strikes Iran with Tomahawk Missiles and Drones

The US military reportedly launched its first strike against Iran’s Islamist regime on Saturday, utilizing Tomahawk missiles and a new type of “one-way” drone. The strikes were said to have “effectively suppressed” Iran’s air defense systems through a strategy involving multiple geographic command and control systems to, well, overwhelm their defenses.

According to reports, President Donald Trump authorized this offensive, which marks the first use of new combat capabilities, including those unidirectional attack drones alongside the Tomahawk missiles. The targets focused on high-value sites, including facilities linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps, naval venues, and underground locations potentially associated with nuclear activities.

In what was described as a multi-day operation, there were reportedly hundreds of targets aimed at. U.S. officials assert that Iran’s response has been “ineffective,” and that their air defenses were significantly challenged during the attacks.

On the ground, the Iranian Red Crescent Society mentioned that joint assaults by the US and Israel have impacted over 20 provinces, even stretching as far as London. Meanwhile, Iranian officials announced the installation of “mobile gas stations” across transport routes, ostensibly to help those seeking refuge from the conflict.

The situation remains somewhat unclear, especially regarding any casualties among senior Iranian officials as a result of the strikes. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi even mentioned that, at least to his knowledge, the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei is still alive.

State media in Iran have indicated that the US was able to gain control over the country’s air defenses but did not completely prevent Iranian retaliation. Reports suggest that 14 US military bases have faced missile and drone attacks, although confirmation of these details from the United States is still pending.

Several Gulf Arab states, including Bahrain, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia, reported attacks from Iran. The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that their military “successfully intercepted” various Iranian assaults targeting the Riyadh area and its eastern regions. They condemned these actions as unjustified, asserting that Saudi airspace and territory have not been used for attacks on Iran.

Moreover, the Saudi government has stated its commitment to protective measures against any form of “unwarranted aggression,” indicating that all necessary steps will be taken to safeguard the nation and its residents.

In a conversation with a national security reporter from the Washington Post, President Trump emphasized his primary concern for the “freedom of the people” in Iran, underscoring the complicated mix of priorities in this ongoing conflict.
