Heidi Montag discloses vocal cord bleeding following her exit from 'Masked Singer'

Heidi Montag Discusses Vocal Injury Following “The Masked Singer” Elimination

Heidi Montag recently shared insights into her vocal injury after being eliminated from “The Masked Singer.” In an interview, the 39-year-old former reality star explained that her vocal issues—sustained prior to joining the show—intensified during filming, ultimately preventing her from continuing even if she hadn’t been voted out.

“I had just injured my voice and ended up bleeding my vocal cords, which rendered me unable to speak for about a week or so,” she said. “I required medical treatment and consultations with several doctors, and even if I had stayed on longer, I wouldn’t have been able to continue. It was a pretty serious injury.”

Reflecting on how it all began, Montag recalled, “At first, I thought I was coming down with something. I really couldn’t talk at all because I’d lost my voice. It was quite severe.”

When it came to her time on “The Masked Singer,” Montag mentioned needing to rest her voice for a week prior to performing and even had to communicate through sign language at times. “Rehearsing those songs wasn’t an option; we just had to step out on stage and give it our all. Afterward, we couldn’t even speak,” she expressed. “That’s what made it so challenging. Even now, it hurts to talk.”

Describing her physical discomfort, Montag added, “It feels like I have strep throat, but the bleeding has stopped. It’s just that the costume is so heavy, it feels like I pulled a muscle while singing. I realize now that I really pushed myself too hard. Maybe I should’ve set the bar a bit lower.”

Competing as Snow Cone, she was eliminated on the episode airing February 25 after performing the Spice Girls hit “Wannabe.”

Montag conveyed she would tackle the experience again if given the chance, mentioning, “I’ve wanted to do this show for a while. The whole experience, from production to performance, is uplifting and fun.” She also pointed out the challenges posed by the elaborate and heavy costumes, noting the invaluable assistance from backup dancers.

Her husband, Spencer Pratt, even joined her on stage dressed as Mr. Snow Cone, which she found less challenging since she didn’t have to keep it a secret from him. “As for our kids, they’ve been in rehearsals for a year, so they were accustomed to it,” she explained.

Montag’s children, particularly her 8-year-old son, reacted with disappointment at her elimination. “He said he couldn’t watch anymore, but I reassured him it was okay,” she recounted. “He actually asked if I could continue, but then he realized I wouldn’t be around as much.”

Memory of a difficult commutation loomed large, as Montag made numerous trips to Los Angeles for the show, often not returning home until quite late, squeezing in a few hours of sleep before the morning school run.

Additionally, Montag and her family were among those affected by the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles back in early 2025, which resulted in them relocating to Santa Barbara.

The latest season of “The Masked Singer” airs new episodes every Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET on FOX.
