Israeli Military Launches Major Offensive in Iran

On Saturday, the Israeli military announced that it had executed a significant operation, resulting in the deaths of numerous high-ranking members of Iran’s leadership, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) specified that they targeted various locations in Tehran where senior Iranian defense officials were assembled. A senior Israeli security official mentioned that over 40 Iranian security and regime figures were killed during this airstrike.

This operation is described as one of the largest of its kind in modern warfare history, with officials noting that Israeli intelligence had managed to infiltrate Iranian security forces, making the attack feasible.

Among those killed was Ali Shamkhani, the secretary of Iran’s Security Council and an advisor to Khamenei. Another significant figure, Mohammad Pakpour, who had led Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps, was also among the deceased. He had been involved in strategies aimed at attacking Israel, according to the IDF.

Other casualties included Saleh Assadi, head of the Intelligence Directorate of the Qatam al-Anbiya Emergency Command; as well as military chiefs and officials linked to Iran’s nuclear and chemical weapons programs.

Interestingly, President Donald Trump also confirmed Khamenei’s death, referring to him as “one of the most evil figures in history,” stating that this was a form of justice for not just Iranians but for many across the globe who suffered at his hands.

The leaders were reportedly convening at a Tehran compound on Saturday morning when the strikes occurred. Sources indicated that the timing of the airstrikes—delivered during the day—was strategic, allowing for the element of surprise. There was a conscious decision to advance the schedule for the strikes, aiming for targets of opportunity.

A senior U.S. defense official commented that this audacious daytime attack managed to catch senior Iranian leadership off guard, coming as it did on a Saturday morning during Ramadan, a time generally considered to be less active.
