Rising Star at the NFL Combine: Who is Taylen Green?
As fans tune into the NFL Combine, many might be wondering, “Who is Taylen Green?”
This quarterback from Arkansas, ranking in the top ten of this year’s NFL Draft, certainly made a splash at the event, setting records for his position.
Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 227 pounds, Green clocked a remarkable 4.36 seconds in the 40-yard dash, achieved a vertical jump of 43 1/2 inches, and matched those with an 11-2 broad jump. These feats are now the best for quarterbacks going back to at least 2003.
His vertical surpassed the previous record held by Anthony Richardson, the No. 4 pick of 2023, by three inches, while he exceeded Richardson’s broad jump record by five inches. Interestingly, his 40-yard dash time is just slightly behind Reggie McNeil’s record of 4.35 seconds, set in 2006.
It’s worth noting that Green chose not to attempt to improve his initial dash time on his second try.
His performance certainly shifted the dynamics at the combine; initially seen as a potential developmental choice for a team late in the draft, Green’s impressive display has stirred things up, especially beyond the expected top pick, Fernando Mendoza.
According to the latest rankings from ESPN, Mel Kiper Jr. has Green positioned as the eighth quarterback prospect.
Before his two seasons with Arkansas, Green spent two years at Boise State, where last year he threw for 2,714 yards, netting 19 touchdowns against 11 interceptions. Additionally, he rushed for 777 yards, scoring eight touchdowns.
On the combine’s other front, running back Mike Washington Jr. also shone brightly, dashing to a leading time of 4.33 seconds in the 40-yard run, coupled with impressive vertical and broad jumps of 39 inches and 10-8, respectively.
Interestingly, Green mentioned that no teams have reached out to explore him as a receiver, and moving positions doesn’t seem on his radar.
