Bay Area driver under the influence crashes $100K Land Rover into backyard pool

A suspected drunk driver crashed a $100,000 Land Rover Defender into a backyard pool, resulting in images that seem almost cinematic.

On Thursday evening, San Mateo police shared peculiar photos showing the luxury SUV being pulled from the water by a crane.

According to officials, the driver lost control and barreled through a fence before landing in the pool.

The suspect, who has not been identified yet, was apprehended without incident and now faces multiple charges, including drunk driving and hit-and-run, as reported by SMPD.

The police haven’t provided an estimate on the damage caused by the crash.

San Mateo police described the event on social media as an unexpected pool party. They humorously remarked about an “uninvited guest” who arrived in a vehicle. After a quick investigation, they found the SUV resting in a backyard pool, following the removal of part of the fence.

“While we appreciate the creative parking attempt, this does not meet city ordinances,” the police tweeted.

Using the incident as a cautionary tale, authorities reminded the public about the risks of drunk driving. They encouraged residents to opt for a designated driver or rideshare service if they’ve been drinking, emphasizing that such incidents can lead to dangers and expenses that are completely avoidable.
