Ohio Man Charged with Wife’s Murder
An Ohio man is now behind bars, accused of murdering his wife, whose body was discovered with over a dozen knife wounds in their residence.
Kyle Long, 35, was arrested last week and charged with murder after a four-month probe into the unusual circumstances surrounding his wife Rachel’s death at their London home on October 23, 2025, as reported by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
This all started when police were summoned to Kyle Long’s home, where he claimed Rachel had taken her own life, according to a criminal complaint. In a 911 call, he allegedly stated, “My wife just stabbed herself. There was no pulse and there was blood everywhere.”
When officers arrived, Long mentioned that he had been watching TV in another room when his wife went into the bedroom, laughing and then suddenly screaming. He stated he found her injured, with stab wounds to her face and neck.
An autopsy revealed that Rachel died from “multiple sharp force injuries,” with at least 17 stab wounds. Notably, records indicate that just before her death, Rachel texted a friend about an upcoming concert they were planning to attend and did not seem suicidal during that interaction.
In subsequent interviews, police found inconsistencies in Kyle Long’s retelling of the events. Evidence gathered at the scene suggested a struggle had taken place inside the house.
According to Sheriff John Swaney, “Mr. Long was the only person in the residence since we responded to the residence upstairs and investigated it as a suspicious person from the beginning.”
Investigators also uncovered that Kyle had expressed a desire to end their 10-year marriage shortly before Rachel’s death.
Last week, Kyle Long appeared in court and is currently being held on a $1.5 million bond. His attorney, Samuel Shamansky, mentioned that Kyle was not surprised by his arrest but felt disappointed, asserting that Long has been wrongfully accused. Shamansky emphasized that the delay in charges raised questions about the evidence running against Long.
“He has been nothing but cooperative,” Shamansky said, referring to Kyle’s willingness to meet with the county coroner for inquiries regarding Rachel’s death. “This is a tremendous tragedy for him, his children, and their families; now he faces the daunting task of defending himself, which he is eager to do,” he added.
Rachel Long was a mother of two and ran a pet grooming and boarding business. Her obituary highlighted her deep love for animals and her involvement in dog rescue initiatives, alongside her passion for reading and attending rock concerts.
