Forrest Frank Shines at Houston Rodeo
On Sunday evening, over 70,000 attendees filled NRG Stadium in Houston to witness one of the most popular artists in Christian music share his faith through song.
Forrest Frank performed a mix of energetic hits and more reverent worship anthems during his appearance at the Houston Rodeo, an event that attracts over 2 million visitors annually throughout its three-week run.
Being a Texas native, Frank held a special connection with the audience.
While NRG Stadium typically serves as the home for the Houston Texans in the fall, on this particular night, it transformed into a unique blend of a rodeo and a worship service, as Frank led the crowd in praise. Tickets for his concert sold out in under 30 minutes, a testament to his popularity. He wasn’t the only artist performing; this year’s lineup also featured Megan Moloney, Kelly Clarkson, Laney Wilson, Chris Stapleton, Tim McGraw, and Lizzo.
Notably, Frank was awarded Artist of the Year at the recent Dove Awards, underscoring his rising prominence in the industry.
At the start of the concert, he proclaimed, “I call you by name, but it doesn’t matter, because of all the names, only one name matters: who you are, who you were, and who you will be. That is the name of Jesus Christ.”
Adding a personal touch, Frank acknowledged his grandfather, Neil Frank, who was a celebrated meteorologist in Houston for over two decades before passing away last year at the age of 94. Video tributes during the concert showcased moments from his grandfather’s career, including footage involving the Billy Graham movement.
He expressed to the audience, “This is very special,” referencing the significance of his performance at the rodeo. He reflected on the biblical theme of intergenerational blessings that his grandfather often discussed. “The Bible says we are allowed to pass on blessings, so whatever the Lord has given me, I ask the Lord to pass it on to you,” he said. This moment felt particularly poignant, as he attributed his ability to lift Jesus’ name at such a significant venue to those blessings.
Joey Guerra, a music critic for the Houston Chronicle, praised Frank, stating, “He has found a sweet spot among young fans of Christian music, and it’s easy to see why. His songs have an earnest, congenial vibe akin to Owl City, Andy Grammer, and early Maroon 5.” Despite a stormy forecast that weekend, Frank’s performance left the crowd in good spirits.
