Raiders consider trading Maxx Crosby again, but retaining him is also a possibility

Max Crosby’s Return to Raiders Amid Trade Turmoil

Fueled by an intense desire to be recognized as the top edge rusher, Max Crosby arrived at the Raiders facility early Wednesday morning. This isn’t unusual for him—he’s committed to his routine day in and day out.

As the first player to show up and the last to leave, his dedication remains unwavering, regardless of weather or season. For Crosby, the “Mamba mentality” he’s adopted since turning his life around drives him to strive for greatness in the football world.

It’s this very determination that has made him a formidable presence in the NFL.

In many ways, it felt like nothing had changed since the whirlwind events of the past six days.

Initially, the Raiders had agreed to Crosby’s request for a trade, sending him to the Ravens in exchange for two first-round draft picks. He even shared an emotional farewell on social media, expressing his gratitude for the Raiders and his commitment to help his new team pursue a Super Bowl.

However, Tuesday took an unexpected turn when the Ravens backed out of the deal, citing concerns about Crosby’s knee injury.

What a roller coaster ride this has been. Just hours after this sudden change, Crosby found himself back in Las Vegas, working in the Raiders’ facility as if nothing had happened.

Yet, there’s no ignoring the fact that things have shifted significantly during his brief absence. The Raiders’ landscape is undeniably altered, and Crosby’s future with the team remains uncertain.

While Crosby maintained his usual routine on the lower floors of the facility, significant discussions were unfolding above with the team’s management, including general manager John Spytek and coach Clint Kubiak. They weren’t pleased with how the Ravens situation played out—notably how it was handled in Baltimore.

But in Las Vegas, there’s a new approach underlining the team’s operations, with influencers like minority owner Tom Brady promoting a blend of caution and pragmatism.

With the new league year kicking off, Spytek and his team began finalizing multiple free agent deals, totaling over $280 million, which incidentally makes room for Crosby’s return under a new contract structure.

The Raiders wasted no time in signing players, bringing in Ravens center Tyler Linderbaum, Packers linebacker Quay Walker, and a few others to bolster the roster. They committed to honoring their agreements while also looking to fill more positions.

Interestingly, interest in Crosby hasn’t waned, with calls coming in from other teams considering trades. This situation serves as a reminder of Crosby’s value to the Raiders.

Ultimately, the team finds itself at a crossroads. They could either keep Crosby and reinforce their lineup or entertain serious offers for him. “They’ll be the ones making the calls,” noted an NFL executive. “They have the leverage.”

Whether Crosby wishes to stay or remain open to trade talks is secondary; the Raiders are determined to proceed with what’s best for their organization.

The balance of power has shifted in their favor compared to just a week ago, allowing them to pursue a more robust lineup. The moves they’ve made have garnered praise across the league.

A rival executive remarked, “It’s not just about the athletic talent—they’re also bringing in great character, which is vital for building a new culture.”

So, if the situation ends with the Raiders keeping one of the league’s top rushers, is that really a negative outcome? Conversely, if any team, perhaps the Bears or Cowboys, shows interest with a significant offer, it could be equally appealing.

As things stand, the Raiders have effectively navigated through emotional upheavals and are ready to explore their future, whether that includes Crosby or a new direction entirely. The emotional weight of parting with a franchise cornerstone seems to have lessened, facilitating any possible future moves.

This newfound clarity puts the Raiders in a strong position as they evaluate their options with flexibility.
