Marquise Williams Will Not Attend UNC Football Games This Season
It looks like Bill Belichick won’t see any notable North Carolina alumni at the games this fall.
Marquise Williams, a former Tar Heels quarterback and a two-time second-team All-ACC selection during his four years with the team, recently surprised fans by announcing that he wouldn’t be attending games at Chapel Hill this year.
He made this clear in a post on social media, stating, “I’m not going to a UNC football game this year! What I’m hearing is things I never thought about.” He even added a heartbroken emoji but didn’t explain what specifically was bothering him.
The situation around UNC football has certainly gained attention, especially with Belichick at the helm since last season. Rumors have been swirling about the coach’s personal life, particularly regarding his girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, which has led to a fair bit of controversy.
An interview on “CBS Sunday Morning” raised eyebrows and prompted questions about Hudson’s influence on Belichick’s work life. Reports surfaced suggesting that she had been barred from UNC facilities, forcing the university to respond.
Belichick’s first year has already produced a 4-8 record, which included a disappointing 42-19 defeat against rival North Carolina State, marking the team’s third consecutive loss. But general manager Michael Lombardi feels that the problems may not be as severe as they seem.
Lombardi recently commented on “The Pat McAfee Show,” asserting that during tumultuous times, the team remained united. “We didn’t lose any recruits to other teams,” he said. “The players have put in the effort, which I think gives everyone in this program the push we need.”
He added some insights on the nature of criticism, noting that, “If you’re not worth it, they won’t attack you,” suggesting that the program’s struggles had drawn an unusual level of scrutiny.
Williams currently serves as the quarterbacks coach at Lewisburg College in North Carolina. During his time at UNC from 2012 to 2015, he amassed impressive stats, ranking fifth in passing yards with 7,970 and throwing 61 touchdowns. He also recorded 2,453 rushing yards and contributed significantly to the team’s overall scoring, tying for tenth in total points in the school’s history.
