Morrissey calls off concert due to exhaustion

Morrissey recently canceled a concert due to complaints about noise at his hotel.

In a blog post titled “Message from Morrissey” on his official site, he stated that a performance set for Thursday at the Palau de Les Arts in Valencia, Spain, “has become impossible due to lack of sleep.”

“Morrissey drove from Milan to Valencia, but struggles to rest in Valencia because of the noise,” the entry explained further.

It continues, “Given the current situation, holding the show is unfeasible.”

One comment described Morrissey’s hotel experience as an “indescribable hell,” suggesting it could take him years to recover. That seems like an understatement.

The singer’s main grievance was the overwhelming noise.

On March 12, another entry noted, “After a couple of days traveling, Morrissey arrived at his hotel in Valencia late Wednesday.”

He remarked that the festival’s noise, the loud techno music, and megaphone announcements made it impossible to get any sleep. At one point, he claimed he was left in a catatonic state.

A representative for Morrissey did not respond immediately to requests for further comments.

The 66-year-old has previously canceled a performance in January in Rancho Mirage, California.

In another blog passage, Morrissey mentioned that side effects from medication had led to the postponed concert originally scheduled for January 3, 2026. Tickets for that show would be honored on future dates, according to statements made.

Earlier in January, a show in San Diego was also canceled, as announced on Instagram.

Morrissey released his 14th solo album, “Make Up Is a Lie,” last week and has had to cancel multiple shows in the recent past. A planned concert in Stockholm in June was called off due to a lack of support.

He expressed the despair of not being able to perform, stating, “The pain of not being able to arrive in Stockholm this week is terrifying for the band and crew.”

He stated that they yearn to perform in cities like Stockholm and Reykjavik but lack the necessary financial backing from a record label.

After travelling across six countries, he described the band as “almost invisible,” lamenting the absence of support from the music industry despite having many friends in those regions.

Additionally, Morrissey canceled shows in Boston and Connecticut in September due to credible threats to his life, prioritizing the safety of both himself and his audience.
