Katherine Heigl Addresses Criticism After Charity Event at Mar-a-Lago
Katherine Heigl, known for her role in ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ has responded to the backlash following her recent public appearance at a charity event held at Mar-a-Lago, President Donald Trump’s Florida resort.
This past Sunday marked her return to the public eye after a two-year hiatus as she attended the Wine, Women & Shoes fundraiser, which supports Big Dog Ranch Rescue. Though the event aimed to promote animal advocacy, Heigl faced immediate criticism from some online users questioning her presence at an event hosted by Trump.
“Animals don’t vote. The only room they don’t like is the euthanasia room at a shelter… This event was about animal advocacy—something that has always been deeply personal to me,” Heigl stated in a message to Just Jared.
She further added, “As a society, we should all come together to protect the voiceless and the innocent. This should not be a polarizing issue.”
Following the release of her statement on Instagram, the response from users was mixed, with many expressing both support and criticism. One commenter pointed out Heigl’s remark about animals not voting, saying, “No, but if they did they would have better judgement than you!”
In an open response, Heigl questioned whether social media comments truly impact the lives of animals suffering due to human actions, asking, “Seriously…what do you truly think matters to the voiceless and innocent…actions or just Instagram posturing?”
Big Dog Ranch Rescue, which promoted the event, claims to be the largest, cage-free, no-kill dog rescue in the U.S., and reported that the fundraiser raised over $5.5 million for their cause.
