Tragic Discovery of Missing Teen

A 15-year-old boy who vanished on Long Island after mentioning he was meeting someone from the online game Roblox has been found dead, two months later, in a body of water in Brooklyn, as confirmed by police.

Thomas Medlin, from St. James, New York, was discovered in the waters off Red Hook, Brooklyn, on March 7. Authorities identified him on March 12.

According to officials, Medlin left Stony Brook School around 3:30 p.m. on January 9 and made his way to the Stony Brook station. His last sighting was at Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan about two hours later, at 5:30 p.m.

After he went missing, Medlin’s family indicated that he had traveled to New York City to meet someone he had interacted with through Roblox.

A representative from Roblox commented that the platform prioritizes user safety and provides parental controls to limit features like in-game chat. They expressed sorrow over the incident, emphasizing their continuous efforts to enhance user protection.

Medlin’s social media and gaming accounts were scrutinized, but police stated that nothing from those platforms was related to his disappearance. They noted that there were no indications of criminal activity surrounding the case.

According to the investigation, video evidence showed Medlin on the Manhattan Bridge walkway at 7:06 p.m., with his cellphone last functioning at 7:09 p.m. Surveillance footage also revealed water being disturbed below the bridge shortly after.

As of now, the investigation remains active.
