AJ Brown Remains an Eagle for Now

For the time being, AJ Brown is staying put with the Eagles. Trade discussions have ramped up this week, but according to Deanna Russini from The Athletic, Philadelphia is not looking to make a move “at this time.”

Russini mentioned that the Eagles have engaged in “serious discussions with both the Rams and Patriots” concerning the talented wide receiver, but no trade appears to be on the horizon just yet.

As summer approaches, it’s expected that negotiations around wide receivers will gain momentum. Russini indicated that, if a deal does happen, it’s likely to get serious closer to June 1.

Last month, the Philadelphia Inquirer noted that the Eagles were aiming for a first-round and a second-round pick in exchange for Brown. Currently, he’s in the middle of a three-year, $92 million contract that he signed two years ago.

Even amidst ongoing rumors, which date back to last season’s trade deadline and persistent worries about Brown’s status in Philadelphia, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman previously attempted to quell speculation about the team’s intentions in February.

“It’s really hard to find great players,” Roseman expressed. “I think AJ is a great player. From my perspective, we’re trying to improve in all areas, and it can’t be subtractive.”

However, head coach Nick Sirianni seemed a bit less assured about Brown’s future with the team. “Will AJ be here next season? I think we’re still in that situation. We can’t guarantee how anything will play out,” Sirianni said before the NFL Combine in February. “I’m even considering coaching next season, but who knows what will happen tomorrow?”

Brown, selected by the Titans as a second-round pick in 2019, has notched over 1,000 receiving yards in four consecutive seasons since joining the Eagles before the 2022 season. Still, his performance took a dip last year, finishing with just 1,003 yards in 15 games.
