Zuby Ejiofor’s NBA Prospects Shine Bright

Two St. John’s basketball greats are in agreement: Zuby Ejiofor has what it takes for a successful future in the NBA.

Mark Jackson and Walter Berry were present to witness their school’s triumph as they secured their second consecutive Big East Tournament title. This came after St. John’s, the top seed, triumphed over No. 2 Connecticut with a dominant 72-52 victory at the Garden.

“Some might wonder if he’s really a pro,” remarked Jackson, who used to play point guard for the Knicks and is now a coach. “Honestly, I’m baffled by anyone who doubts it. What he’s accomplishing night after night at St. John’s will definitely transition well to the next level. I’m really looking forward to what comes next for him. He’s going to be there, and for a long time.”

Standing at 6-foot-9, Ejiofor made significant contributions with 18 points, nine rebounds, seven blocks, and three steals during the lopsided affair. His performance earned him the tournament’s Most Valuable Player honors.

This season, the Big East Player of the Year has consistently put in top-notch performances for the Johnnys, even stepping up his game in the past few days.

In fact, throughout the tournament, his averages included 19.6 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 blocks, and 3.0 assists.

Berry, who was the Big East Player of the Year in 1986 and later a first-round draft pick for the Trail Blazers, playfully noted, “His numbers are strikingly similar to mine. He showcased incredible skill tonight—seven blocks? That’s impressive, almost like Hakeem Olajuwon.”

“Zooby is definitely on his way to being a solid professional,” he added. “He proved tonight that he belongs in the NBA.”

Ejiofor is currently viewed as a probable draft choice, with most forecasts placing him in the early second round. I kinda think Jackson has the talent to be a first-round pick.

Jackson, holding a firm stance, stated, “I’m not just guessing; I’m confident. If you second-guess decisions and overanalyze, you’ll miss opportunities and kick yourself later. You have to keep it simple with him.” He further emphasized, “What he’s done at St. John’s is remarkable. He embodies high character and quality. His passion and enthusiasm—really, they’re infectious.”
