Cam Young shares unique details about his personal life following his $4.5 million victory at the Players Championship

Cam Young Reflects on His Win and Personality

Golf player Cam Young opened up about his personal feelings this past Sunday after clinching victory at The Players Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.

During a post-match press conference—following his second PGA Tour title and an impressive $4.5 million prize—a journalist inquired, “Why don’t you smile all the time? You must feel incredibly happy right now.”

At just 28, Young has built a reputation for his serious demeanor both on the golf course and in interviews.

He clarified his feelings post-win, saying, “Generally, you’re not going to get a ton from me, but that doesn’t mean I’m not very, very happy to be sitting here with this.” It’s interesting to see a pro be so direct while still keeping it simple.

Elaborating on his mood, Young shared, “When I asked my wife, [Kelsey], she said, ‘He’s a very, very happy person.’ I love my life, family, and job—couldn’t ask for anything more. I’m fit, and my kids are healthy.” It’s refreshing to hear such honesty, isn’t it?

He continued, “I think that level of calmness works best for me. Now, about being not happy? Well, I am… I guess it gets a bit exhausting to even address that. Honestly, it takes a while to wrap my head around it. So, you won’t hear a lot from me, but believe me, I’m very happy to be here and sharing this.” It feels a bit like he’s grappling with expectations versus reality, right?

Young, who tied the knot with Kelsey in 2021, started dating her while attending Wake Forest University. Their kids celebrated his victory on the course.

On the back nine, Young had to fend off challenges from Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick, as well as Ludvig Aberg, who had a three-shot lead. In a pivotal moment on the par-3 17th, Young matched Fitzpatrick with a birdie. Fitzpatrick’s subsequent bogey meant that a par on 18 secured the win for Young.

Previously, Young won his first PGA Tour event at the 2025 Wyndham Championship. He was named the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year in 2022, with five second-place finishes, which included a runner-up at the British Open and a tie for third at the PGA Championship.

Interestingly, Young’s father, David, recently retired after a long career in golf and now serves as the director of golf at Sleepy Hollow Country Club. His mother, Barbara, also had a brief professional golf stint and led a mini-tour to support aspiring female golfers.
