Gemini AI Claims Bias Against Republican Senators
According to an exposé shared by Fox News, Google’s Gemini AI chatbot has flagged only Republican senators for violating its hate speech guidelines, with no Democratic senators appearing on its list. Wynton Hall, the social media director at Breitbart News, highlighted this finding and discusses the inherent bias within AI in his newly released book, Code Red: Left, Right, China, and the Race to Control AI.
When prompted for examples of senators who made comments against the hate speech policy, Gemini responded with names from the Republican party but not one Democrat. A video from Fox News captured this interaction.
Hall’s book sheds light on what he views as a systematic bias against conservatives in AI technologies. He emphasizes that this instance is just one of many that illustrate a trend.
While discussing AI’s political leanings, Hall noted, “The architects of AI in Silicon Valley tend to have left-leaning political views, as shown by their financial contributions to Democratic causes.”
In his investigative work, Hall utilized Gemini Pro’s “deep research” feature. Fox News Digital confirmed the findings through screen recordings. Google has not provided any commentary on the matter.
Among the Republicans named by Gemini during Hall’s analysis was Senator Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee. She was flagged for comments depicting transgender identity as a negative cultural influence. Similarly, Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas was identified as a supporter of legislation limiting transgender students in sports.
Hall points out that AI technologies may claim neutrality, but they often reflect the biases of their creators. He recalls an incident with Amazon’s Alexa during the 2024 election cycle. When asked why someone should vote for Kamala Harris, Alexa expressed support, but when the same query was posed about Donald Trump, it avoided a direct answer.
Hall argues that such disparities can influence public perception while maintaining a façade of objectiveness. He stresses the importance of transparency regarding the training data used in AI and suggests that critics should demand accountability from these tech firms.
He warns, “The outcome of the AI fairness debate will significantly impact future generations’ political ideologies.” Hall recently stated that conservatives cannot afford to disengage from the AI landscape.
The competition for dominance between Silicon Valley conservatives and the far left serves as one focus of Hall’s book. He delves into how AI affects nations and economies, as well as personal reflections from his own family experiences.
Some key topics explored in Code Red include:
- AI’s role in promoting ideological indoctrination and strategies for resistance.
- The use of AI-related unemployment to foster dependency.
- Ways for America to counter China without emulating it.
- Preparing children for the rapid advances in AI.
- The national security risks associated with AI.
- The fascination with AI companions and maintaining genuine human relationships.
- The challenge that AI poses to faith and meaning, with potential for unexpected spiritual outcomes.
Hall receives accolades from various figures, including Senator Blackburn, who praised his insights into the ongoing conservative fight against Big Tech. Michael Shellenberger, an investigative journalist, called Code Red a crucial conversation starter in the effort to address Big Tech’s authoritative aims.
