Texas Rep. Remarks on Security Guard’s Identity
Texas Representative Jasmine Crockett (D) expressed that the security guard, who was fatally shot, was a committed and respectful individual, despite living under a false identity.
Crockett’s office noted that Diamond Maazel Robinson had gone by the name “Mike King” for several years and had served on her security team for a long time. Robinson was killed by Dallas SWAT during a standoff outside a children’s hospital last Wednesday.
“His past as we know it now does not match the Mike King we have come to know,” Crockett stated.
According to police drive recorder footage, Robinson fled from officers and resisted exiting his vehicle. After over an hour of negotiations, he eventually got out. As he reached for a handgun, officers shouted for him to stop, but he continued to draw his weapon, prompting the officer to shoot. Robinson was later declared dead at the scene.
Robinson’s history included living under an alias, multiple weapons charges, and theft of government license plates. Nevertheless, Congressman Crockett defended him in a press release.
“As a former public defender, I believe people are more than their worst actions. I believe in redemption,” she remarked, emphasizing the respect and care Robinson demonstrated toward others.
In a subsequent release, Crockett’s team stated they had “no indication” of violent crimes in Robinson’s background, adding that he had exploited a legal loophole.
Dallas Police Deputy Chief William Griffiths informed journalists on Monday that Robinson was impersonating an employee of a non-existent federal agency, which he described as “special high-level police.” He clarified, “That agency does not exist within the federal government.”
Authorities also revealed that Robinson had two active felony warrants related to theft charges dating back to 2017 for masquerading as a federal employee and showing false identification. Additionally, he had a parole violation and was linked to stolen vehicles and firearms, including one involved in the standoff.
Despite the revelations about his past, Crockett’s team (referring to Robinson as Mike King) asserted, “We had no reason to suspect he wasn’t who we thought he was.”
They added, “He never jeopardized our team, worked diligently, collaborated with local law enforcement, and fostered positive community ties. His past, as we now understand it, does not align with the Mike King we knew.”
So far, neither Crockett nor her team has responded to inquiries from media outlets regarding the incident.
