Austin Shooting Suspect Revealed, Investigation Ongoing

The individual linked to a shooting incident in Austin, Texas, is under scrutiny as authorities explore the possibility of it being a terrorist act. Ndiaga Diagne, a 53-year-old naturalized citizen originally from Senegal, has been named as the suspect, with previous legal issues involving a felony charge that was downgraded to a misdemeanor and subsequently dismissed, according to various records.

On March 1, shortly before 2 a.m., a shooting occurred outside a beer garden in Buford, resulting in three deaths and injuries to 14 others, as reported by law enforcement. Notably, authorities found images of Iranian leaders, along with an Iranian flag, inside Diagne’s residence.

Records obtained indicate that Diagne faced a felony charge for a hit-and-run incident from December 2022, where he allegedly merged into another vehicle, causing it to crash into a median and hit cable barriers. The victim noted that Diagne had been changing lanes erratically and continued driving after the collision.

When confronted by officers at his home, Diagne denied involvement, claiming he was en route to Houston. However, his vehicle showed signs of damage consistent with the reported accident. Eventually, he accepted a plea deal for a misdemeanor charge related to the accident and was placed on probation in January 2024. By July 2024, the charges were dismissed as he completed his probation successfully.

During the investigation, a sweatshirt with a phrase linking to Islamic beliefs and an undershirt featuring the Iranian flag were reportedly found on Diagne at the time of the shooting. Additionally, a Koran was discovered in his vehicle.

Three individuals lost their lives in the shooting: 21-year-old Sabitha Shan, 19-year-old Ryder Harrington, and 30-year-old Jorge Pederson, according to police statements. While the exact motive for the incident has yet to be determined, FBI officials are considering potential links to terrorism.

Agent Alex Dolan suggested at a press conference that while it remains early to ascertain the true motive, there are indications from both Diagne and his vehicle that could connect this event to terrorist activities.
