Search for gunman concludes with discovery of his body a day after Alaska shooting incident

Tragic Events Unfold in Anchorage, Alaska

A comedy club owner, believed to have terminal cancer, has died following a violent incident where he shot his ex-stepfather and attempted to shoot his ex-wife outside his business in Alaska.

On March 14th, Anchorage police initiated a search for 61-year-old Matthew Thomas Becker, who is suspected of killing Romaine Clark and trying to harm his ex-wife. Reports indicate that Becker opened fire near the hair salon he owned, before the police intervened shortly after.

The Incident

Becker’s ex-wife informed authorities that he approached her car just as she arrived for work. After he got out of the car, he fired shots as he tried to enter the store. Tragically, Clark was shot inside a nearby home just minutes later.

According to a legal document, Becker fled after the shooting. Friends of Clark found him shortly before police arrived, leading them to the gruesome discovery. Officers learned from the ex-wife that she feared for Clark’s safety just moments before the shooting.

“Preliminary evidence indicates the suspect fired several shots through a window, hitting and killing the victim,” noted Anchorage Police Chief Sean Case, providing insight into the chaotic events of that morning.

Aftermath

Authorities found Becker’s body the following day in the woods near Eagle River. It appears his death was self-inflicted, but they are still investigating the exact circumstances. It’s a somber conclusion to events that escalated so quickly.

Interestingly, Becker had moved to Arizona after his divorce but returned to Alaska without his ex-wife’s knowledge. He was living with the reality of terminal cancer, as shared by his brother, which might have weighed heavily on his mind.

The Anchorage Police Department has yet to provide additional comments on the situation, leaving many questions unanswered. The tragic sequence of events serves as a stark reminder of how quickly life can spiral out of control.
