Pritzker: “In President Trump’s head, I’m living rent-free”
Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker reacted to recent immigration raids in Chicago conducted by the Trump administration. He shared his perspective in a “special report,” arguing that both federal and local authorities need to appropriately address crime on the streets.
As he aims to make history by becoming the first Democrat to secure three consecutive terms as governor of Illinois, Pritzker also has his sights set on a possible presidential run in 2028. Interestingly, he already knows who his Republican opponent will be in the upcoming election.
Former state Senator Darren Bailey has clinched the Republican nomination, defeating three other candidates, as reported by the Associated Press.
Bailey, a farmer, is well-known among Illinois Republicans. He’s a strong advocate for Donald Trump and his MAGA movement. Despite winning the 2022 Republican primary, Bailey lost the general election to Pritzker by over 12 points.
This time around, Bailey bested conservative commentator Ted Dabrowski, who had the backing of prominent Republican donors. Other candidates included video gaming mogul Rick Heidner and DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick.
Pritzker has emerged unopposed as the Democratic nominee.
The governor, whose family owns the Hyatt hotel chain and has been involved in various investment ventures, has gained a notable national presence. He has positioned himself as a leading Democratic figure against the policies of Trump, especially as we look ahead to future elections.
Political analysts perceive this gubernatorial contest as a preparatory step for Pritzker, who seems to be laying the groundwork for a potential presidential campaign in 2028.
